Walasse Ting Walasse Ting was born in Wuxi, China, but was raised in Shanghai where, by his own account, he first began painting on sidewalks. In 1952, he moved to Paris where he formed closed friendships with members of the CoBrA group . Eight years later Ting emigrated to New York , where he became involved with pop artists. In 1964 he published a book of his poems entitled One Cent Life illustrated with original lithographs by numerous American and European artists .In 1977 he was awarded a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and published Red Mouth ,a book of erotic drawing and paintings. He is the author of many other books, and has numerous exhibitions throughout the world. Walasse Ting currently resides in New York ,but spends much of his time in Europe and Asia. He has a daughter and a son. He has developed a very personal style, with colour as its main element. Freshness, brightness and vitality pervade in Ting's work. But his work is known not only for its vibrant colouring, but also for the portrayal of beautiful and sensual women. Painting women, Walasse Ting wants to show us their beauty, tenderness and charm.
