Li Yanpeng
The barren loess slope, docile goats, lonely little tree, those North Country landscapes full of field sentiments that appeared often in Li's artworks are language symbols and spiritual carriers of his woodcuts. During the period that art never flourish so much, there is maybe nothing greenness or vogue, but Li Yanpeng cuts with all his heart, his passion, give these landscape a new life and special meaning. The creation <Warm winter> and <On the Field> won the favours of many collectors and exploited a new field of the waste-block prints. Li Yanpeng was born in a small village of Hebei province, he grew up on the loess plateau which allowed him to be a typical boorish child. Although he graduated from Chinese Central Fine Art Academy, educated by a strict and systemic art training, and he was a professional artist later, but he kept always a modest, honest and sincere character those farmers have. The subjects he chose are not for seeking novelty, that's his hometown, which he knows most, loves most, and can't leave forever, those are his thoughts, feeling and taste about the life, the living during several years. We can say that's his instinctive choice. As the famous Holland artist Vincent van Gogh said: " A real artist is directed by heart". That also because of his true feeling for this hometown, he was also drove by his heart, that's why the farmers, the goats and the loess plateau became so vivid, natural and tenderness, full of living breath and earth sweetness and without any phoniness, falsehood and affectation.
