Painting, an
unexpected achievement in life |
Each time meeting with Chen Yuping, I was moved by his unwearied
enthusiasm towards painting.
Overwhelming the diversification
Entering into Chen YuPing's studio, my eyes were suddenly
attracted by a bright-colored woodcut print named Song of the Gale.
The picture depicts a scene in the deep fall: leaves and branches
are trembling as if they were singing when gale blows over the
golden mountain and the forest. |

He was born in Acheng City
in 1947. In 1968 when the Culture Revolution was started, a few print
artists were assigned to work in the countryside in Acheng and receive
examination. He
was deeply fond of fine arts had an unexpected chance to learn the basic
skills for print creation from a teacher. In 1969, he started print
creation. He was smart, hard working and started from high threshold with
rapid progress. |
|
In the late 70s, the campaign of
Reform and Opening to Outside World was started and gave an opportunity for
him to exert his talent, thus came the harvesting period of his creation. He
is a key member of Acheng print creation group arisen in the middle of 80s.
During this period, he took a two-year course in Print Department, Central
Academy of Fine Arts, which laid a foundation for the development and
improvement of his print creation.

If the
favorable subjects in the works of a mature artist are often the depiction
of his heart, for Professor Chen Yuqiang, the aesthetic transfer picture is
largely the water screen print "Aigrette"in his series. "The Rain Pours in
the Evening and Stops in the Morning, The Vast Mountain is filled with
Autumn Atmosphere". Mountain streams flow in the cool valley, water flows in
spray. Screens lying beside the withered grass are like white bittern
standing in clear water and with searching eyes staring into the water. It
gives you a picture of "Fish surface in clear water".
|
|
A world of
simple, clear and harmonious colors is constituted by black stones, aigrette,
grey bluish streams, yellowing grass and the red stamp at lower right corner.

Chen Long is
the 90's youth print artist of 20th century, who accepted the
advanced college education. His print creation began in Bei-Da-huang (North
big wasteland), so from the angle of the print history of North Desert, he
belongs to the third generation of print artists. Since 1998, his work has
been paid great attention by the print field with its vivid and bright
feature and style, and the sharp principal consciousness and spirit. Because
his work not only had changed the essential of print creation and visual
configuration in Bei-Da-Huang, but also had a great significance in the
innovation of the traditional woodcarving print, the significance and spirit
implied in the visual configuration had been sublimed.

Woodcut
plating enjoys a long culture tradition in Suzhou. "The Autumn of Gusu Print
Plate?was held in the early 80s of last century, not to mention the
resplendence in Ming & Qing Dynasties. The works of many famous print plate
artists domestic and overseas were on exhibition in Suzhou. During the
process, a lot of new stars of print plate had risen in Suzhou, they were
young and possessed the strength in print plate creation. More than a dozen
years is over, a great change has taken place in the society. Due to a
variety of reasons, some have stayed away from it, some have given it up.
However, some have been perseverant and cultivating tirelessly in the print
plate field, and they have gradually become the influential figures in the
field in China. The paper gives an introduction to Ling Junwu. |

I think it is the lot so that it
can be realized!
When I
entered the primary school, it was the time of "Learning Leifeng". All the
awards we got were the paper imprinted on Leifeng Image, which always still
had the smell of ink. Later, we knew it was the print, with straight and
powerful lines and strong contrast of white and black, which was always
looked better than any other color printed propagandizing paper hung on the
wall. |

In
1998, in the exhibition of "Shan Dan Print Exhibition" held in China Art Museum,
I had exhibited 30 prints and two of those were collected in China Art Museum.
Besides, I was living in the area that owned excellent print tradition all along
and got the care and help from the artists of the old generation. I think it is
the lot.
Under the
influence of his father, Wu Enqi had engaged with the print creation and
annual pictures creation; and also he had drawn the comic strip and
illustrations. But he found that his ability was still not equal to his
ambition, |
|
so he was
eager to have the chance of further training. In 1982, he got the chance
finally. He had been matriculated by the Print Department of the Central Art
College.

It is forty years since I
was involved in printmaking and my career as a graphic artist started in my
school days when, a middle school student, I tried to do woodcut just for
fun without anticipating that I would spend a lifetime to scale the heights
of graphic art.
Sincerity is the core of artistic creation. Only the
artist's genuine feelings from his inner world creates beauty. While spring
out the works to be published ,I found those worthy of appreciation were
done with sincerity.
In addition to serigraph in which I major, some prints of other kinds such
as woodcut printed in water-soluble ink and that printed in oil-soluble ink
are included in this collection. |
