About my creations-preface by Chen Yuqiang
It is forty years since I was involved in printmaking and my career as a graphic artist started in my school days when, a middle school student, I tried to do woodcut just for fun without anticipating that I would spend a lifetime to scale the heights of graphic art.

Sincerity is the core of artistic creation. Only the artist's genuine feelings from his inner world creates beauty. While spring out the works to be published ,I found those worthy of appreciation were done with sincerity.
In addition to serigraph in which I major, some prints of other kinds such as woodcut printed in water-soluble ink and that printed in oil-soluble ink are included in this collection.

How to appreciate woodblock prints' three tastes

The Chinese traditional woodblock prints printed with soluble ink, calls also Shui yin woodblock, has a brilliant history. The Shui yin woodblock prints are different from traditional Chinese paintings who express by line and Chinese ink;
the Shui yin woodblock prints incarnate its features and characters by cutting and printing. We can appreciate a Shui yin woodblock print by its three tastes, graver taste, wood taste and water taste.

Printmaking is different from the other art, artists should create indirectly by a media, it lay particular stress on technique and making process, artists can enjoy the pleasure during the printing. Because of the chanciness and unexpected effects, the other media can't replace the specialties of printmaking. But it's difficult to develop the printmaking at Hong Kong because of the limit of interspaces and equipment.
