Mountain to me is a book of life.
My parents are all from north plain areas. But I grew up in a small border town surrounding by the mountains in Yunnan province. People living here could see nothing more than mountains.
In my childhood, mountain to me was a fairy storybook. "Long long ago, there was a mountain, and there was a temple in the mountain." I was always told a story like this, when I was a little child. It was said there were many ancient buildings such as "God Temple" "Emperor Pavilion" "Guanyin Pavilion" around the small town we lived. They were demolished later and only left some symbolic big trees. When the night screen had hung down, I would see the trees through afterglow and it reminded me of those fairy tales. This kind of sense always followed me.
When I was a juvenile, mountain to me was a textbook.. The first time when I entered into mountain areas, perilous peak and dangerous brambles had impressed me. But at the same time, I saw a sea of clouds and heard the soughing of the wind in the pines. The spring in the ravine seeped from the root of trees, as if the thirst for life.
In my youth, mountain to me was a teacher. When I grew up to be a real man, I learnt a lot from mountain. It told me what is broad and tolerant. I became grateful because had experienced all kinds of hardships. I became loving, because I had better understanding of love. I became broad, because was affected by the tolerant spirit of mountain. Mountain taught me to be persisting and devout to life. If you ponder over, you will find a kind of pure and noble quality of mountain, you will find it is simple and unadorned, great and honest. All these qualities of mountain in fact come from life itself.
The leaves will be luxuriant only deep roots. Because the deep love for mountain, I am passionate to produce. I have more source material, due to the rich experience of life. The deep understanding of mountain makes my artworks full of passion. It is the spirit of mountain. |
